‘New directions in Jazz from ex-If saxophonist Dave Quincy and his new group’

As key exponents of the 1970s UK jazz-rock scene, If conquered Europe and America with their dynamic and sophisticated ‘live’ performances. They also released a series of diverse albums, packed with well-crafted songs and instrumentals.

Dave Quincy, co-founder of If, now returns with his new group, Groovicity.

The members of Groovicity are from the Poole and Bournemouth areas of the UK, emerging from a thriving local gig scene. Dave Quincy teamed up with talented pianist Guy Gardner, with whom he had previously performed locally and in London. After a particularly well-received show last year at the Eagle Jazz Club in Rochester, Kent, they contacted jazz pianist Prof. Ray D'Inverno and booked time at his Dorset studio to lay down some tracks. Local Bassist Joe Limburn and drummer Lee Miller were added to line up, and so, in a few hours one afternoon, Groovicity was born.

Groovicity are currently lining up gigs in the UK and Europe and are also re-arranging some classic IF songs, and planning on further expanding the group to a six piece outfit for gigs and more recordings.
