Top British jazz trumpeter Ian Carr formed Nucleus in 1969 and the group won first prize at the Montreaux International Festival. They established a reputation for improvised but integrated music that moved between jazz and rock styles. ‘Elastic Rock’ was the group’s critically acclaimed debut issued on Vertigo in 1970. Ian on trumpet integrates with Brian Smith (sax), Chris Spedding (guitar), Karl Jenkins (baritone sax and keyboards) and John Marshall (drums). Said Carr about ‘Elastic Rock’: “We see music as a continuous process and have tried to express this on the album.” Produced by Pete King of Ronnie Scott’s Club, the re-issued CD has 13 instrumental tracks, including ‘1916’, ‘Stonescape’ and Karl Jenkins’ title piece.
