Birth Control, the leading Germany progressive rock band was influenced by such British outfits as Deep Purple and Spooky Tooth. They started as a revolutionary student band in Cologne in the late Sixties, but later moved to Berlin and released their first album in 1970. Birth Control featured drummer and vocalist Bernd Noske and bass player Bernd Koschmidder. The band was completed by Reinhold Sobotta (organ) and Bruno Frenzei (guitar, vocals), who died in 1983. ‘Gamma Ray’ was one of their classic jazz-rock instrumental pieces, that often ran on for ten minutes in ‘live’ performances.
