Scotland’s only classical progressive rock band – that’s what they called Beggars Opera during their heyday in the 1970s. The group from Glasgow first got together in 1969 and were signed to the Vertigo label, producing four excellent albums.
Although the original group split in 1974, they got back together in 1980 when guitarist Gordon Sellar, together with vocalist, the late Linnie Patterson, recorded ‘Lifeline’ for release in Germany - where the band remained highly popular.
This excellent set of performances includes the title track that was released as a single and features Alan Park on keyboards together with a strong rhythm section. Here is a fine album that revives the spirit of a formidable group now hailed as unsung heroes of the progressive rock era.
